This structure keeps technical skills, portfolio links, GitHub, work history, and project outcomes readable for ATS parsing and practical recruiter review.",

 {
 "title": "Readable ATS Formatting",
 "text": "The layout uses simple headings, standard section labels, and text-based formatting for contact details, technical skills, experience, education, and projects. That matters for web developers because tools like JavaScript, React, Node.js, HTML, CSS, APIs, and SQL should be easy to read without relying on icons, columns, or graphics."

Web Developer Resume Formatting Rules

This section helps you catch formatting and content problems before your Web Developer resume reaches a recruiter or ATS. Check for vague wording, missing metrics, generic skill lists, tiny fonts, unclear formatting, and unreadable structure that can bury your coding work, project scope, and technical contributions.

- use a clean, ATS-friendly layout
- keep the resume to one page when possible, two pages only when justified
- use readable 10.5 to 12 pt body text
- stick to standard fonts like Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman
- use clear section headings and a simple reading order
- keep contact details in the main body of the resume
- show measurable web development impact with numbers and outcomes
- name the web development tools and platforms you actually used
- tailor keywords naturally to the target Web Developer role
- save the file as a simple .pdf or .docx

- do not use photos or profile pictures
- do not use fancy or decorative fonts
- do not add tables, columns, text boxes, icons, or graphics
- do not place important details in headers or footers
- do not turn the resume into a dense wall of text
- do not write vague claims without metrics or context
- do not list every web development tool or platform you have ever touched
- do not stuff keywords unnaturally
- do not let the resume run past two pages for this template
- do not use design-heavy layouts that are harder for ATS to parse

## FAQ

### What is the best format for a web developer resume?

Use a reverse-chronological format if you have professional web development experience, with sections for summary, technical skills, work experience, projects, education, and certifications. Put your stack near the top, including languages, frameworks, libraries, databases, testing tools, version control, and deployment platforms.

### How long should a web developer resume be?

Most web developer resumes should be one page if you have fewer than 7 to 10 years of experience. A two-page resume can work if you have substantial production experience, multiple shipped applications, leadership responsibilities, or a deep full-stack background.

### What skills should I include on a web developer resume?

Include role-specific skills such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Vue, Angular, Node.js, REST APIs, Git, SQL, responsive design, accessibility, testing, debugging, and CI/CD tools when they match your actual experience. Group skills by category so ATS systems and reviewers can quickly identify your front-end, back-end, database, and tooling strengths.

### Should a web developer resume include projects?

Yes, projects are especially useful if you have limited professional experience or want to show hands-on work with a specific stack. Include the project name, technologies used, your contribution, and a concrete outcome such as improved page speed, authentication built, API integration completed, or deployment to a live environment.

### Do certifications matter on a web developer resume?

Certifications can help if they support the technologies in the job posting, such as cloud platforms, security, or specific development tools. They should not replace proof of applied work, so prioritize shipped features, code contributions, production systems, and measurable technical results.

### Can I use the same web developer resume for every application?

Use the same core resume structure, but adjust the skills, summary, and project bullets for each posting. A front-end role may need more emphasis on UI frameworks, accessibility, and browser performance, while a full-stack role should give more space to APIs, databases, authentication, testing, and deployment.
