Compute Procurement Lead

Remote
Andromeda ClusterNorth America Remote / San Francisco, CA

Compute Procurement Lead Location: San Francisco, CA or Remote (US) · Full-Time About Andromeda Andromeda Cluster is a $1.5B company founded by Nat Friedman and Daniel Gross to give early-stage startups access to the kind of scaled AI infrastructure once reserved only for hyperscalers. We began with a single managed cluster — but it filled almost instantly. Since then, we’ve been quietly building the systems, network, and orchestration layer that makes the world’s AI infrastructure more accessible. Today, Andromeda works with leading AI labs, data centers, and cloud providers to deliver compute when and where it’s needed most. Our platform routes training and inference jobs across global supply, unlocking flexibility and efficiency in one of the fastest-growing markets on earth. Our long-term vision is to build the liquidity layer for global AI compute. We are expanding to new frontiers to find the brightest that work in AI infrastructure, research and engineering. The Role The Compute Procurement Lead is responsible for sourcing GPU capacity globally on behalf of Andromeda and its customers. The role spans the full supply ecosystem — neoclouds, hyperscalers, colocation operators, data centers, OEMs, and chip vendors including NVIDIA — and covers origination, technical evaluation, and commercial negotiation. You will be responsible for directing up to billions of dollars in compute spend. This is a technical and commercial role in equal measure. You will evaluate capacity from the GPU to the data center, negotiate cost and terms with suppliers, and travel to sites to assess readiness in person. You will work with compute pricing daily and are expected to develop and defend a view on where the market is heading. What You’ll Own ● Global Capacity Sourcing: Find and secure GPU capacity worldwide across neoclouds, hyperscalers, colocation operators, data centers, and emerging providers. Build the pipeline before demand shows up, and keep a live picture of what is available, where, and when. ● Supplier Ecosystem Relationships: Own relationships across the supply chain — neocloud operators, hyperscalers, colocation and data center operators, OEMs and integrators, and chip vendors including NVIDIA. Manage allocation conversations and roadmap access, and be the person suppliers call first when capacity frees up. ● Technical Evaluation: Assess capacity from the GPU to the data center: hardware generation and SKU, rack and node configuration, interconnect fabric, storage, power density, cooling, and network topology. Know what a configuration will actually deliver on a real workload, not what the spec sheet claims. ● Cost Negotiation: Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers — GPU-hour rates, capacity commitments, deposits and payment timing, SLAs, and remedies. You will direct up to billions of dollars in compute spend, where every point negotiated compounds across the platform. ● Site Evaluation Travel: Fly to sites and evaluate them in person. Verify power, cooling, deployment readiness, and operator competence, and translate what you see into a clear go/no-go and a defensible price. ● Market Pricing: Live in compute pricing daily. Track rates by GPU generation, region, and contract term, understand what is moving them, and make sure Andromeda is never the last to know. ● Compute Market Thesis: Build and defend a view on where the compute market is heading — supply coming online, next-generation platform transitions, power constraints, regional and policy shifts — and turn it into concrete sourcing decisions. What We’re Looking For ● Deep GPU Data Center Fluency: You understand GPUs, racks, interconnect, power, and cooling well enough to evaluate a cluster on your own judgment. You can read a configuration and tell whether it will train what the customer says it will. ● Sourcing Negotiation Track Record: Experience sourcing scarce, expensive capacity or hardware and negotiating it hard. You have carried significant spend and closed against real constraints. ● Market Instinct: You follow pricing closely and form independent views. You can explain why a rate moved and what it implies for the next six months. ● Willingness to Travel: You’ll be on the road regularly, often internationally and often on short notice. You see site visits as the highest-signal part of the job, not a chore. ● Commercial Judgment: Comfortable with unit economics, TCO, and contract structure. You know when to move fast on capacity and when the price implies something is wrong. ● Build Orientation: You’d rather create the process than inherit one. You thrive in a lean, high-trust team with direct leadership access and real autonomy. Strong Candidates May Have ● Neocloud or hyperscaler capacity experience: You’ve sat on the supply side and know how these operators actually plan, price, and deliver. ● NVIDIA or OEM allocation relationships: Experience managing allocation, forecasting, or partner standing directly with a chip vendor or tier-1 OEM. ● Data center operations background: Hands-on familiarity with power, cooling, and deployment readiness — enough to spot a site that won’t make its date. ● Commodity or energy market experience: Background in a market where physical delivery, scarcity, and price discovery all had to be handled at once. Why You’ll Love It Here ● Capacity sourcing is the core of Andromeda’s edge — what you secure determines what the entire platform can sell. ● You’ll see the global supply picture across dozens of providers and hardware generations, a vantage point almost no one else in the market has. ● Small, senior team with direct access to leadership, short decision paths, and genuine ownership over the outcome. ● Comprehensive benefits for you and your dependents, including healthcare, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k), and unlimited PTO Andromeda Cluster is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

"San Francisco hiring in 2026 still rewards people who can operate close to product, customers, and revenue. The mix tends to span engineering, product, design, operations, analytics, support, and go-to-market roles, with many employers expecting sharper evidence of ownership than a title alone provides. For local and hybrid jobs, candidates often need to show why being near Bay Area teams, users, or partners changes how they work."

How to Land a Job in San Francisco in 2026

San Francisco job searches in 2026 usually reward candidates who can explain their lane clearly. A broad search across the city can include software engineering, product, design, operations, sales, customer support, analytics, compliance, finance, and research roles, so your application should not read like a general availability statement. Pick the role family you want, then connect your recent work to that lane in plain terms.

For technical roles, emphasize shipped systems, production ownership, security practices, cloud tools, data infrastructure, mobile work, or developer workflows that match the listing. Product and design candidates should show how they worked with engineering, used customer or usage data, made tradeoffs, and moved a feature from problem definition to release. Operations, support, and customer-facing candidates should be specific about ticket volume, process ownership, account types, internal tools, escalation paths, or service-level expectations.

  • Position around one job family. A San Francisco recruiter reading for a product manager, data analyst, or customer success role should see that target within the first few lines of your profile.
  • Match the work model. Many San Francisco listings distinguish on-site, hybrid, and remote expectations. Reference your ability to work with local teams, distributed teams, or office-based schedules only when it fits the role.
  • Use local context carefully. If you have Bay Area startup, enterprise software, fintech, healthcare, climate, marketplace, or infrastructure experience, connect it to the actual job description without turning the application into a company history lesson.
  • Prioritize listings by fit. Apply first to roles where your seniority, tools, domain exposure, and work style line up with the posting, then keep a short list of adjacent roles that share the same core function.

Resume Tips

For jobs in San Francisco, keep the resume close to the posting instead of writing one broad version for every application. A finance operations role needs different proof than a product, sales, design, customer support, or engineering role. Lead with the work the employer is asking for: Salesforce or HubSpot for revenue roles, Figma or design systems for design roles, SQL, Excel, Tableau, or Looker for analytics roles, Jira or roadmap work for product roles, and audit, compliance, or vendor controls for operations roles.

Cut older responsibilities that don’t connect to the San Francisco posting. A long list of meetings, soft skills, or generic ownership lines takes space away from shipped projects, customer outcomes, process improvements, launch work, reconciliations, pipeline growth, or support metrics. If the role is hybrid or on-site in San Francisco, make local availability clear near your contact details.

Use bullets that show scope and tools. Weak: “Helped manage customer accounts and internal reports.” Strong: “Managed 45 enterprise accounts in Salesforce, cleaned renewal data in Excel, and reduced overdue follow-ups by 30% across the San Francisco book of business.”

For 2026 applications, present experience in the same language as the job description without stuffing keywords. Certifications such as PMP, CPA, SHRM-CP, Google Analytics, AWS, or Salesforce Admin should only appear when they match the role.

How to Prepare for Interviews

For jobs in San Francisco, interview prep should match the function behind the posting rather than the city name alone. Engineering candidates may face a coding screen, debugging exercise, or system design discussion, so prepare one example where you made a technical tradeoff and can explain latency, scale, reliability, or maintainability. Product and growth roles often include case prompts, such as sizing an opportunity, diagnosing a funnel drop, or prioritizing a roadmap with limited data.

Design candidates should be ready for portfolio reviews that cover process, constraints, user feedback, and the business result of a shipped feature. Operations, support, compliance, and partnerships roles may lean on scenario questions: how you handled an escalation, built a repeatable workflow, reviewed a policy issue, or managed an external relationship. For San Francisco roles in 2026, bring concise stories with metrics where possible, such as reduced cycle time, improved activation, lowered defect rates, or resolved customer issues faster.
